Dreamhost Down Really Hard
Yesterday when I was trying to make some post on my blog, the whole dreamhost was down really hard, including the main sites and the dreamhost status site as well, that sucks! I then tried to post some comments on the status site, for some reason it look like hacked and I got stuck on the leave reply page showing that I’m logged in as micah, which I have no idea who is. I just went to sleep and hopefully I didn’t have to “dream” about the host outage.
Amazon scam from Nigeria
Before I have listed the phone HTC 8525 for sale in Amazon.com, one day I got an email saying that I have sold the phone and I have to ship it to 16 Razaq Balogun Street, a place in Surulere, Nigeria. The email asked for international express mail so that they can get it by next Wednesday and it gives me about forty bucks of shipping credit for me to ship, it also claims that it has like thousands of deposits on Amazon.com for purchase protection (something which Amazon.com never has). At first I thought it was true and I took my phone to USPS to ship without checking amazon first, and the postage was only $34 and I thought I would make ten buck more out of the shipping credit this time.
Later on in the afternoon after I got home I went to Amazon.com to check the order’s status and I realized that the order was NOT FOUND! I then realized that it is a scam and went to USPS immediately to cancel the shipment at about one o’clock. Fortunately the phone was still there, but the guy who assisted me in the morning went out for lunch and I had to come back later at 2:30, meanwhile they will hold the shipment for me. Later on I came back and made lots of hassles to cancel the shipment and luckily get the postage fee refunded.
I almost lost a phone and $34 because of the scam from Nigeria. Fortunately I found it out on time and came to USPS on time to cancel the shipment. If I came to USPS later than 1:40, my phone would have been shipped and I don’t know what will happen and if I still were able to get the phone and my postage fee back.
From this I learned that whenever we received an email about an order online being sold, we must check the originating website to see if the order exists and matches whatever the email claimed rather than just impulsively shipping the order right away.
Finally Google Webmaster Tool Picked up My Sitemaps
I had problem uploading my sitemap to Google’s Webmaster Tools since October 22. Google used to pick up my sitemap in about 30 minutes, but this time it showed last download is October 21 and it had been pending for more than a day until it finally downloaded it. In the mean time I also submitted a sitemap for my new website, but I really caught the bad time and it took me three days before Google download the sitemap for the first time, ahhhh. I googled around and checked the Google Groups about this issue and I found out that many people had the same problem and it was something to do with Google. Hopefully they will fix this soon.
Godaddy.com offering $0.99 .info domain for sale again
Today I checked www.GoDaddy.com and it is offering $0.99 .info domain for sale again! Cool, I grabbed some .info domains after seeing that. You can just buy the domain by itself for $0.99 without buying any extra stuff with godaddy!

Bad Luck with Steadfast.net’s MySQL Server
Today when I went to check this blog at about 3:30pm PST I figured out that it took very long for it to respond and it can’t connect to the database. I then checked other websites but also the same. Later on I figured out that’s because steadfast’s mysql2 database server was down as their hard drive screwed up
. I checked their website and they said they replaced the hard drive, but they needed filesystem check as well. I waited and waited for a few hours but at 7:55PM CT they said the filesystem check process restarted and I have to wait again. I kept on checking their update about the problem and at 9:45pm they said the filesystem check is completed and some data are corrupted, but they have the backup from the morning. I then checked my website and it worked for a like a minute or so but down again. Later on I checked their update again and realized that the good news is gone; instead they replaced it with a bad news in 10:00pm saying that the RAID card screwed up and they’ll look at it. An hour and a half later the bad news came, that the whole RAID array is gone and they had to replace the whole thing! After another hour wait they said they are installing the system back to the new drives and finally at 1:13 AM they are up again, and they restored the backup that was taken at 1:30AM CT on October 21, ahhhh. Fortunately nothing was changed on my websites at that time of period.
I have never had any issue with this hosting company before. My websites were almost never down until yesterday, but this time it is been down for too long. It was down for more than six hours. On all other hosting companies that I have before they have downtime as well, but only for a very short time rather than this lengthy delay. However, this issue is not common and I hope that this won’t happen again.
Hostgator unlimited space and bandwidth for cheap price
Hostgator right now is giving you unlimited space and bandwidth for all shared hosting packages. Also, for the Baby and Business plan they allow unlimited domains. It’s a very good deal for just $4.95, $7.95, and $12.95 a month for the Hatchling, Baby, and Business plans if paid 3 years at once. If you don’t want to pay for 3 years at once you can pay it for 2 years, 1 year, or even monthly, which is $8.95, $9.95, and $14.95 a month, still not that much higher than 3 years at once for the Baby and Business plans.

Blogflux gave me a wrong PR
Blogflux.com made me think that my PR was 0 while my actual PR was 2 after I checked it with other websites. Darn, that might have made some people go away. Don’t use their website or code to check PR anymore until they fix it.
Google Map Weird Suggestion
When I got the driving direction to Disneyland in Google Map, it told me to Make a U-turn at Paradise Pier for 259 ft and then stop when I got there. What? It makes no sense to make a U-turn like this.
